Back On Repeat

How to loop a YouTube video (put it on repeat)

YouTube has a built-in loop that puts a whole video or song on repeat. This page shows where to find it on a computer and on a phone, and what to use when you want more than that.

On a computer

  1. Open the video on youtube.com.
  2. Right-click on the video player.
  3. Click Loop. A check mark appears next to it, and the video repeats until you turn it off.

To stop looping, right-click again and click Loop to clear the check mark.

On a phone or tablet

  1. Open the video in the YouTube app.
  2. Tap the video once to show the controls, then tap the settings gear.
  3. Turn on Loop video. In some versions of the app it's under Additional settings.

YouTube moves this setting around between app versions, so the exact menu may differ.

When YouTube's loop isn't enough

YouTube's loop repeats the whole video and that's all. Two things it can't do:

  • Loop just part of a video, like a chorus or a guitar solo you're learning. See how to loop part of a YouTube video.
  • Count your plays. YouTube doesn't tell you how many times you've repeated a song.

Back On Repeat is a free web app that does both. Paste a YouTube link, or change youtube.com to backonrepeat.com in the address bar of any video. It loops the video, counts every play, and keeps your history so you can see what you've had on repeat.

Questions

Can YouTube loop just part of a video?

No. YouTube's loop always repeats the whole video. To repeat one section, use a looper such as Back On Repeat, where you drag two handles to set the start and end.

Why did the loop turn off?

YouTube's loop setting only applies to the video you turned it on for. When you open another video, it's off again.

How do I repeat a song on YouTube?

Open the song's video and turn on Loop the same way: right-click the player on a computer, or use the settings gear in the app. To repeat a whole playlist instead, open the playlist and turn on the loop button in the playlist panel.

Can I see how many times I've looped a song?

Not on YouTube. Back On Repeat counts every loop as a play and keeps a history of your play counts.
